Words from a Reader

The “Writing Life Stories” e-mails I receive are such treasures. As soon as I see there is one in my inbox, I read it immediately. I look forward to them and never know how they will touch me. They can be interesting, informative, humorous, and/or touching.

Changes Made Here

I just spent 20 minutes deleting all the Spam that has collected on this blog. I hate to make it difficult to comment here, but I have to.

Now you will have to prove you are a human being before you can leave a comment. Some bloggers ban anonymous comments, but I have some friends who don't have Google addresses and I don't want to keep them from leaving comments.

Recently I set up a website for the first time. You should be able to go there with www.glendacbeall.com, but I don't know if the search engines are finding it yet. If anyone can pull it up, please let me know what you think. It is a website for Writers Circle which is my studio in Hayesville, NC where we hold writing classes spring, summer and fall.

I still have work to do on the website, but hope to have it where I want it before long.
If you have any suggestions that would make it better, I am open to hearing them.
Contact me at nightwriter0302@yahoo.com
For now, I am returning to watching Celtic Thunder Mythology. I love these Irish guys, but I'll have to listen to Mythology for a while before I like it as well as I did the first album.

September 29, Poets come together and read

On Saturday, September 29, poets around the world will gather and share their poetic thoughts on the state of our culture, our society and what changes we want to see take place.

This is not a political event. Anyone can read their work. There will be poems on peace, on the environment, on marriage, divorce, children, and so many other things we poets think about. The Open Mic begins at 2:00 p.m.

If you live in the south west part of NC or the north east part of Georgia, mark your calendar and come to the 100 Thousand Poets for Change to be held at Groves Enterprises, on highway 64, between Murphy and Hayesville, NC.
Look for signs.

Robert S. King of FutureCycle Press is hosting the event. Snacks and drinks will be available. Everyone is invited. Come and listen or come and share a poem or short prose piece.
Bring family and friends. There are over 700 events of this type being held on September 29. You will enjoy meeting other writers and poets, seeing old friends, and being a part of something that is becoming an annual happening in this country and around the world.
To help with planning, contact Robert King by email, rsking@futurecycle.org or Glenda Beall, nightwriter0302@yahoo.com and let us know you plan to be there and if you plan to read.

Registration open now

Come and sit on the porch in a rocking chair, write, write, write at Writers Circle, my home studio.

The long Memorial Day weekend is over. I hope you had time to do all the things you enjoy. I did. Tomorrow we are back to "real life."
That means it is time for me to start thinking about registration for my six weeks of creative writing classes beginning Wednesday, June15. Also, we have Ronda Birtha teaching another class on How Indie Authors Use Social Media. Her class in May was superlative. All poets and writers should take a class such as this one to be sure they are using Facebook, Twitter and blogs to their best advantage, and using them safely. These classes are taught at Writers Circle in Hayesville, my home. Contact me by email if you want to register or need more information. nightwriter0302@yahoo.com

"Do you obsess about the tone of your writing when you revise? You should." Writers Digest, July/August issue - Adair Lara.
Some excellent articles in this magazine. Above is from Make Your Tone Pitch-Perfect. We will discuss tone in my classes this summer.

Students are Inspired and Inspiring at Writers Circle Today

Today, Saturday, my dear friend and fellow writer, Estelle Rice, taught a class at Writers Circle, my studio in Hayesville, NC. All the students participated and seemed to enjoy each exercise Estelle gave them. It was obvious that she was well prepared for today.
Estelle has written some delightful short stories such as Antiques which appeared in Lights in the Mountains and her story, Chicken and Dumplings in Echoes Across the Blue Ridge.
A few years ago, she published a poetry chapbook, Quiet Times, filled with spiritual poems.
Like our other guest writers this summer, Estelle was inspired by the students. Some of them are experienced writers and some are beginners.

I am sure they all left today with new ideas that will end any writer's block or hesitation to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard.
I can't wait to further explore the notes I scribbled on my legal pad.

Where Have I Been?

In March of this year, my writerlady 21 E-mail address was scammed and my entire address book stolen. I was told to change my Yahoo address because of identity theft. But, when I changed my Yahoo address, I could no longer open my blogs. I continued to try to get back to my blogs, but after awhile, Google blocked me entirely from this blog.

I opened another blog, Writers Circle, which you can find at http://www.glendacouncilbeall.blogspot.com/ and I've been posting there since April. I am delighted to see so many have continued to visit here even though I could not post.

Thank you very much. Please save my Writers Circle blog so if I can't get back here, you can visit me there.

Writers Circle - Where writers will feel at home.

April is almost here and my new studio is almost ready for visitors. We will hold the first class on Tuesday, April 6, at 10:00 a.m. New tables and chairs are in place for the students. My carpenter promised me he would be back to exchange an overhead lighting fixture and to replace the pet door panel that has outlived one dog but is about to be dumped into the trash. That pet door is an eyesore in my otherwise lovely room. The old carpet has been torn out and new wood flooring brightens up the place.

Mary Mike is making curtains and a table cover for the studio. I spent yesterday dusting off books and replacing them in categories on my bookshelves. My biggest treasure find while remodeling is the folding screen I have set up to divide my office from the classroom. I'll make a photo of it and share it with you.

"Who are You and Why do You Write" is the title of the first class. I'll teach at least one class per month  throughout the spring and summer. Guest instructors will teach, also. On Saturdays we'll offer poetry classes and self publishing classes as well as Spiritual Writing and creative writing.
Rosemary Royston will teach a class on Humor in Poetry. She writes delightful poems, and I look forward to sitting in on that session.
Mary Mike Keller will teach a three session course including genealogy with writing about ancestors. That's a subject I love, also.
Estelle Rice, author of a poetry chapbook, Quiet Times, will also teach a class for Writers Circle, the name of my studio and the name of the writing program.
Joyfully, I look toward a new beginning - teaching, taking classes with other writers, working with instructors, and meeting many new and interesting people.

If you live in the area of Ashville, NC, be sure to put June 4 and 5 on your calendar for the Blue Ridge Bookfest. I'll be there and we hope to have our anthology done and on display by then.

Laura Council is being sought by Sarah D. in Jacksonville, FL

It was good to hear from Sarah of Jacksonville who ordered a copy of Profiles and Pedigrees, Charles Thomas Council and his descendants. Sarah was asking about Laura Council, a relative of Charles Thomas and also of John Cecil Council, (right)
In the back of Profiles and Pedigrees is a genealogical chart of the descendants of John Cecil Council, my great grandfather, an early pioneer of north Florida. I must confess that this chart has not been verified but is a compilation of family group sheets sent to me by various members of the Council family.
I think, however, Sarah will find Laura on this chart and will be able to answer her questions.
Genealogy is one of the most interesting hobbies and one of the most time consuming as well. Researching families is like working on a jigsaw puzzle. You find one little piece that fits and then you become obsessed with finding the next and the next.
Mary Mike Keller, distant cousin, but close friend, has discovered her ancestors from many centuries back, and she will teach a class for Writers Circle, my new interprise, in May, in which she will teach genealogy and writing about ancestors. I hope anyone in the area of Hayesville, NC will come and take part in this class. It should be a good one.
And, Sarah D., your book will be in the mail Monday.

(Valoree Luhr did some fantastic photoshop work on the photo of John Cecil Council, above. The original had a bad crease in the middle of his forhead and his face. Thanks Valoree.)

April - Beginning of Spring and a busy month

My friend, Ellen, recently commented on seeing my name in newspapers, on the Netwest blog and other places quite frequently this month. If it seems  my name is out there more than usual right now, it is because I will be busy in the coming months.
Beginning April 6, my first class begins for my new project, Writers Circle. On that same day, I will be reading at the Clay County Arts Council sponsored Poetry and Art contest awards at the high school. I was asked to judge the poetry this year. This will be a full day, but I look forward to both the class and the reading.
