Words from a Reader

The “Writing Life Stories” e-mails I receive are such treasures. As soon as I see there is one in my inbox, I read it immediately. I look forward to them and never know how they will touch me. They can be interesting, informative, humorous, and/or touching.

Tiger is Sick - To the Vet We Go

I awoke today to find little puddles of bright blood in several rooms of my house and even in my bathtub. Poor Tiger, my cat, has something really wrong with her and, since it was a Sunday, I could not reach a vet.

I called Hugs and Smooches. Patty, my petsitter loves cats and knows everything about them She diagnosed a kidney infection or a bladder problem. I said I agreed with her since Tiger was squatting and trying but could not urinate. She was doing her best to let me know that she was in trouble, but I couldn't help her. I felt so sorry for her.

Patty said I should try to get her to drink plenty of fluids. I added a little colloidal silver to her water and gave her broth as well. She did drink often all afternoon.

She didn't lose her appetite. I suppose that is good. I couldn't get my hands on an antibiotic, but I called my pharmacist and asked if there was an over the counter medicine that would help the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. He said yes. Luckily it comes in tablets so I began giving Tiger half a dose every four hours. It evidently helped her pain. She rests well until time for another dose.

I've not seen any blood today, but she and I are heading out early in the morning to see the vet. She gets car sick, however I have no choice. I don't think he will prescribe unless I bring her in, and I want to know exactly what is wrong with my little furry friend.

I am afraid it is going to be a long night for both of us.

For the Love of a Cat

Tiger is happy I'm home and she can sleep inside
Tiger is curled up beside me on the bed tonight, happy I’m home and she can become an indoor cat again. Having a cat is not the same as having a dog eager to see you and jumping around just dying to have a hug or pat on the head. No, Tiger did greet me with some loud meows but mainly because she was hungry. Cats are much more subtle in showing their love. In fact, I thought maybe Tiger didn’t care who fed her and made sure she had a good bed and water when she needed it. But tonight she just can’t get close enough and seems to be so peaceful and happy to be with me. Guess I’ll keep her.

I Write About My Loves

There are times when I just have to write about what is happening at this moment. Tiger, my bob-tailed cat, is sitting on the arm of my chair watching every letter that forms on the screen of this laptop. She is fascinated by a computer. As she sits and watches me write, her purring is soothing.

I wonder what is going on in her mind as she watches my hands move and the cursor jump across the screen. Does she have a mind? I don't know, but she certainly has a curiosity about what is going on around her.

Cats are different from dogs. Rocky pays no attention to what I'm doing unless I get up, turn out the lights and head to the bedroom. Of course he is right on my heels when I go into the kitchen. And he becomes quickly alert when a vehicle enters our boundaries. He knows which ones are acceptable and which ones are suspect.

The gas truck is one Rocky warns me about and, if he had his way, that man would not stop and get out. Rocky can't seem to understand that if that man does not get out of his truck and invade Rocky's yard, the black stove with the gas logs will not make the warmth the dog enjoys lying in his bed and sleeping before the fire.

Tiger cares not a fig about the gas man because he doesn't come inside the house and disturb her. She curls up on my bed during the day and sleeps or sits on her kitty condo and looks out at the hungry birds on the suet feeder. Her round head moves with the birds as they flit from one feeder to another. I've never seen her kill anything, but Barry saw her catch a chipmunk and a lizard. I'm glad I didn't see that. Even though she is quite domesticated Tiger still has some of the wild inside her. I see that as she crouches behind the sofa and readies herself to pounce upon an unsuspecting Rocky as he passes by.
