Words from a Reader

The “Writing Life Stories” e-mails I receive are such treasures. As soon as I see there is one in my inbox, I read it immediately. I look forward to them and never know how they will touch me. They can be interesting, informative, humorous, and/or touching.

Flaws or Potential?

"We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential."                    --Ellen Goodman

I am taking the advice from the quote above. I am not looking at the flaws as I often do. I am looking for the potential I have to improve my life, the lives of others and to show love to all those who mean something special in my life.

From the most difficult times, we can learn so much. With the losses in my life in the past two years, I realized how fragile life really is. We might not have tomorrow to say "thank you" or "I'm sorry" or "I love you."

So don't be surprised if I write you a love letter. I want to give roses while you can smell them, enjoy their beauty and know I sent them.

I don't want to say, "I wish I had..."

Are you checking out your flaws this January, or are you looking at the potential in your life?

  5. We need to appreciate the waba sabi in life. That is a Japanese term for finding beauty in life as in cracked porcelain or in aging skin.

I have not examined my life for January, yet. We were in NC and I just got the Florida house de-Christmassed.

    Happy New Year/Life!
