Horses - one of my passions

From the back deck of our cabin in West VA, Barry captured the beauty of three horses we enjoyed watching every day. I yearned to go out and caress their smooth necks and smell the velvety noses. Did you know that the little muzzle of a foal or young colt smells differently from an adult horse? Down on the farm were I grew up and lived for most of my life, the pastures were home to many horses and each spring as I drove from my house to the "hard road" I looked for the new foals - all colors and sizes; The babies learning to scamper around on long unwieldy legs and the two or three week old young ones running and kicking up their heels, nipping and playful, unafraid and free. No more beautiful sight to me than horses running loose.

  1. Glenda, that is one gorgeous view of the horses. I had no idea the muzzle of a young colt smelled different from an adult horse. I have a lot to learn when it comes to horses having never really been around them. This certainly makes me think I'm missing something. Great photo, Barry.

  2. Hey Aunt Glenda, I didn't know that either about the muzzles smelling differently.I guess it can be compared to the breath of a puppy in comparison to its mom. I don't know. Just a thought. I used to love to watch the new babies as well. It was always a contest between me, capp, cc, Kaiki and casey, when he was old enough, to try and be the first one to see a newborn colt. We would get up early in the morning to be the first. One of my many fond memories of the Council farm.
